The Last Day

Tuesday, August 27, 2013
My last day was rather bittersweet at Aspen Grove. I was sad to leave, yet more than excited to start the next chapter of my life.

Of course I had to get a photo of all the cooks before I left!

(Karen, Rebecca, Me, Tori, Brian, Rachel, Andrew, Jayne, Kate, and Ellie)

and we HAD to have one last group hug, which was against a Brian rule...

This girl is the reason it was so difficult to leave Aspen Grove. This is Bree. She was in my primary class on Sunday, and I got to teach her! We instantly had a special bond, and I spent most of my week with her. I looked forward to every meal when a dining hall worker would come back and tell me my little friend wanted to say hi, and I knew it was Bree! I looked forward to spending time with her and her family, and we became pretty close in those few short days. It was hard leaving Aspen Grove because I was leaving before Bree's family was leaving. When Bree came and hugged me goodbye, I had to fight very hard to hide my tears. I had to look away so that she wouldn't see the tears well up in my eyes. So, so hard. But I plan on visiting her soon! And happy birthday in two days, BREE! :)

And, of course, my twins. Karen and Kathy! It was hard because we haven't been separated this long since before we met. Holy cow, I am suffering from separation anxiety. ONLY A FEW MORE HOURS UNTIL WE ARE REUNITED!

Gutting Fish...Yet Again

Up until last Wednesday, the summer record for fish was 18.....

Then, Wednesday happened.

It was always my luck to gut a fish, bleach the sink, then turn around to find another fish being dropped off. Seriously?

So, I learned to wait and do fish until right before I left. Of course, I got a fish on Wednesday, and I was going to gut it after dinner, but Tori was getting impatient and told me to do it then. So, I did. I bleached out the sink, turned around to another three fish. Ok, not a big deal. I gut the other three fish, go to dinner, and come back to one more fish. While I am gutting the one fish, four more came! I was laughing, and I finished gutting them! I bleached out the sink a third time (I am very allergic to bleach, so I try and avoid it at all costs.) We are just about to turn off the lights when we get another fish! I just laugh and find out that it is my best little buddy, Bree who caught it! I was so excited! I hurry and gut it, and by the time I was done gutting it, I had 10 MORE FISH!

What the?!?

Yep! Karen and I set a new record with 21 fish....and staying an extra half hour at work.

Way to go out with a bang, right?!?

Bees

Being staffers at Aspen Grove, we were asked to eat outside as much as possible. Well, there is also a pop machine outside, which attracts the bees. Thank heavens for brave Kathy! She caught 12 of them and put them in this cup so that we could eat in peace...

at least for one meal.

Birthday Hike

Monday, August 26, 2013
For my birthday, Karen, Kathy, Amy and I all went on a hike to Stewart Falls. It turned into another one of those hikes that I fear for my life! But the view was worth it! It was definitely the best hike to end my summer at AG with! :)
